FAQ : How to Oil Oak Flooring

Choosing the correct oil to finish your flooring can be a difficult decision due to the wide range of products available and the conflicting information available on the internet.

It is important that before you start to refinish or revitalise your flooring you find out exactly what is on your floor currently.

In this article we are going to concentrate on finishing oak flooring which has got a natural oil finish also known as a pentrating oil finish.

All Pure Tree oiled flooring is supplied with a natural oil finish as we believe this is the most durable and effective way of finshing oak flooring.

We recommend using WoCa Master Oil for unfinished flooring and WoCa Maintenance Oil if you are toping up or renewing a dull and tired finish.

Both WoCa Master Oil and WoCa Maintenace Oil are available as either a Natural finish or a White finish.

The Natural finish option is designed to bring out the natural colour of the Oak. Oak flooring is traditional quite light when it is first laid and over time the oak will naturally mellow to a golden colour. If this is your desired finish buy the WoCa Master Oil Natural or the WoCa Maintenance Oil Natural.

However, if you wish to keep your floor as light as possible then the WoCa Master Oil White or the WoCa Maintenance Oil White is the correct oil to use. Rather than actually colouring the oak white it will prevent the oxidisation process which causes the oak to go golden. Effectively you are keeping the oak as light as possible while providing a tough and durable surface to your floor.

You should never leave an oak floor completely unfinished.

WoCa Master Oil and WoCa Maintenance Oil are both available from our online shop
